BP1860X (Gouby H+d; Freeman 5+D) – F16 ONF (R18)
The bottom leg of the E in ONE is virtually completely missing through either wear or a filled die and appears as F (in fact, there is the faintest trace visible of the tip of the bottom leg)
Note: Freeman states that this version of ONF has been found on specimens of F15 and F16, i.e. paired with obverses Gouby F & H (Freeman 4 & 5), but the “true” ONF variety (with the bottom leg virtually completely missing) has only been found to date on coins paired with obverse Gouby H/Freeman 5.
Examples of a partially complete F with just a trace of the bottom leg showing have been found paired with obverse Gouby G (centrally cut fishtail version of Freeman’s obverse 4) which would explain why Freeman quoted F15 specimens, as he did not recognise or record the central fishtail version of obverse 4. It is probable that these partial F coins are less scarce than the complete F specimens.
